 About the Opportunity

The Strategy and Global B Corp Movement department seeks to coordinate and catalyze global movement building efforts. The department takes a leading role in several key aspects of movement building, such as global policy, research, and marketing and communications, while also working with and empowering the wider B Global Network. The focus of the department is to contribute to the system change objectives of B Lab’s Theory of Change, with a specific emphasis on policy change, narrative shift, and network development.

The Strategy & B Corp Movement department consists of the following five sub-departments:

  • JEDI
  • Policy
  • Strategic Partnerships
  • Marketing, Communications & Brand
  • Insights

The Global Marketing, Communications & Brand Team is responsible for shaping our public narrative strategy, in collaboration with the Global Network of B Lab & Sistema B Global Partner organizations who are collectively stewarding economic systems change. This department is responsible for ensuring a consistent message and narrative for the brand globally, around which all employees and partners align. With 4 colleagues spanning New York and London, the team is responsible for brand and product marketing, public relations, integrated marketing campaigns, social media, content creation, and more. As stewards of the B Lab brand, we interact with teams, board members, and founders across the network. We convene and manage the Global Communications Working Group which includes various stakeholders across functions and orgs, all of whom help to shape our global communications strategy. 

The Digital Communications Coordinator will manage our digital presence while partnering with our global network to uplift stories about the impact of B Corps and our movement around the world. This role will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and creating content for our owned and shared platforms, including our website, blog, social media, and email. They will create and send targeted newsletters and email communications to partners, donors, B Corps, and influencers invested in economic systems change, keeping them engaged and informed and supporting growth in our earned and contributed revenue streams from philanthropy and digital products. The ideal candidate for this position will be a compelling communicator with knowledge of digital platforms and tools to create and deploy content that inspires and educates audiences. The Digital Communications Coordinator will also monitor responses and results, owning reporting and community management.

The ideal candidate is digitally savvy and approaches their work with a growth mindset, constantly seeking to learn and suggest ways to apply new tools and best practices.  We are looking for someone who can work independently, is self motivated, and has strong communication skills. They should be adept at working asynchronously as part of a distributed team, with teammates in the UK and the US and colleagues around the world. This position reports to the Global Director of Marketing and Communications, who is based in New York City.

Core Responsibilities 

Content Creation & Curation [40%] 

  • Write, create, and publish email communications, blog posts, and social media content that deepens engagement and helps drive earned and contributed revenue.
  • Contribute to, maintain, and execute the global content calendar, working in close collaboration with the Global Communications Manager and Global Marketing Manager.
  • Edit longer-form content to create concise, digestible copy for digital channels.
  • Curate content from B Global Network regional and local Partners, Strategic Partners, and B Corps to include on our social media platforms.
  • Manage email preferences, lists, and segmentation, identifying key engagement opportunities for different audiences across the movement.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Growth, Product, and other teams to ensure that audiences receive relevant communications at relevant times, including triggered email campaigns, newsletters, and automated lifecycle communications.
  • Update the Global website (bcorporation.net), using the Content Management System (Contentful) to publish blogs, press releases, news highlights, and other content. 
  • Support communications for digital and in-person events, including scheduling and/or sending email invitations, reminders, and follow-ups to attendees.
  • Leverage Canva and other tools to update and tweak design assets for email communications, blog posts, and social media.
  • Work with the Global Design Lead to update and create new design templates as needed to meet evolving communication and platform requirements.

Monitoring & Community Management [35%]

  • Keep abreast of B Lab and B Corp mentions and relevant conversations on social and other online media, tracking trending stories and topics relevant to our work.
  • Engage with followers and commenters, leveraging B Lab messaging and talking points 
  • Build meaningful connections on our platforms and encourage community members to take action generating high engagement and conversations.
  • Monitor and triage public DMs and email inboxes (currently press@bcorporation.net), responding to or referring inquiries to the appropriate team members.
  • Exercise discretion, tact, and collaboration in determining when and whether to respond to controversial comments and stories, escalating issues to the Director and team.
  • Craft responses that align with our organizational brand and messages while using a tone, length, and format appropriate to the platform and audience.
  • Leverage and recommend appropriate tools to assist and support monitoring and community management, such as Sprout Social and Cision (our current platforms).

Reporting & Analysis [25%]

  • Help define performance metrics for our website, social media, and other key channels, linking to organizational and department strategy.
  • Analyze performance of global campaigns and ongoing communication plans using dashboards, Google Analytics, and social and media monitoring tools.
  • Create and disseminate regular reports on social media, website, and press results and KPIs, working with external vendors as needed.
  • With Director, create and ensure consistent use of UTM tagging to streamline reporting.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share additional data and metrics as needed, supporting grant reporting, board meetings, Insights team research, and other bespoke requests.
  • Surface and share opportunities to improve the performance of our content marketing assets and strategy, identifying trends and suggesting ways to test and optimize.

 

Major objectives for the role in the first 6-12 months

Oversee email newsletters: Act as primary editor and publisher of monthly newsletters highlighting organizational updates, key press highlights, and opportunities to get involved. Write and edit content to engage current and potential donors, press, B Corps, and other stakeholders.
Support digital products: Collaborate on content and email strategy to support successful introduction and adoption of B Lab’s new standards, including the launch of an updated digital platform for assessment and performance management. Develop digital and email campaigns and support writing and publication of targeted content tailored to users.
Create efficient, regular reporting cadence: Consolidate and deliver regular reports on team KPIs, synthesizing website analytics, social media data, press mentions, and existing dashboards into frequent, digestible updates. Streamline grant, board, and internal scorecard reporting.

About You

  • 3 or more years of relevant experience
  • A digital-first creative strategist, with strong writing and content creation skills.
  • Clear communication - the ability to distill complex concepts into simple, understandable pieces for a mix of diverse audiences across multiple channels.
  • Experience creating impactful email and digital campaigns that drive action and revenue; experience with automated and drip campaigns a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, and a comfort with adapting to shifting priorities.
  • Familiarity with design and social media best practices, particularly for emerging platforms; experience with multimedia content and short-form video a plus.
  • Experience using content management systems to publish and edit content; experience with Contentful a plus.
  • Interest and aptitude for thinking analytically, including defining and reporting on KPIs.
  • Experience or strong willingness and ability to learn our digital automation and reporting tech stack, currently Pardot, Sprout, and Cision
  • A service-oriented mindset with aptitude for building strong relationships across teams, ideally in an international and multicultural environment
  • Strong appreciation for JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) principles and a commitment to creating inclusive content
  • Proficiency in other languages is not required but would be a plus

 

Compensation Details

B Lab has a compensation plan that includes:

  • An annual salary in the range of £43,000 - £47,000 
  • In your first year, you’ll start with 20 vacation days in addition to national & bank holidays 
  • Additional time off during org- wide closures when the entire organization is closed (not including holidays) 
  • After your first year of employment - paid time off for community service, paid parental leave, and a professional development budget (we assess this PD budget annually)
