About Octopus and Our Gross Margin Team...
Octopus Energy Group is the largest energy supplier for UK householders, with over 8.5 million customers worldwide and a multi-billion pound turnover.
Our Gross Margin team supports the UK supply businesses within Octopus, parsing and analysing rich datasets to:
- Provide timely, accurate and insightful Gross Margin financial reporting at Month End and Year End;
- Provide analysis and insight and support other teams to improve margin (e.g. pricing of our innovative Time Of Use tariffs).
The team also sits at the centre of our global Octopus Energy group, supporting our teams from New Zealand to the US with best practices, and helps prepare for key industry changes like Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement.
What You’ll Do...
- Develop and inspire the incredible team of accountants, analysts and data engineers who run our Gross Margin reporting;
- Review regular financial reporting and supervise the team of financial analysts who produce that reporting;
- Build and prioritise the roadmap of projects to improve Octopus’ understanding of Gross Margin, balancing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities;
- Drive forward projects to improve the accuracy and scope of our reporting and analysis;
- Present results to the wider team and communicate clearly with senior management.
What You’ll Have – The Four Areas for Success in This Role...
- Financial experience (probably as an ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified accountant)
- Data experience (especially of complex data pipelines and perhaps hands-on skills in SQL/Python)
- Leadership and management experience
- Energy industry knowledge
We aren’t necessarily looking for someone who is “10-out-of-10” in all these areas; but rather someone who has good experience in most of them, combined with a flexible and enthusiastic approach.
This is a hybrid role based out of our London office. Our expectation is that you spend at least 3 days a week in the office so that you can build relationships and collaborate with colleagues across the business.
