What we are looking for
The Manager of Energy Analytics will be a part of the Equilibrium Science group, with the responsibility of working with Trading, Commercial, and Product Development teammates developing virtual/physical bidding and financial trading strategies, performing daily power market dynamics analysis to improve trading strategy development, and managing assets under Equilibrium Energy direction.
What you will do
Analyze market participation performance
- Lead a team of analysts to research and analyze fundamentals of electricity market supply, demand and grid congestion for daily physical and financial operations in multiple ISO markets
- Work with the trading group to analyze physical and financial trading strategies across all ISO markets
- Develop the tools and processes needed to effectively assess Equilibrium’s portfolio operations performance in the short-term markets
Make recommendations for how to improve performance
- Research power market dynamics such as powerflow to more accurately predict congestion and system lambda for use in trading strategies and asset optimization software
- Assess the efficacy of hedging strategies for trading and asset management portfolios
- Make recommendations for improving performance of our trading and operational strategies.
Inform design and development of Energy analytics tooling
- Support design of holistic performance assessment tooling landscape
- Develop prototype analytics tooling
- Support development of energy analytics tooling landscape
Serve as subject matter expert supporting cross-functional energy operations performance improvement
- Partner closely with counterparts in Trading, Engineering, Product, Science and Commercial to improve our operational strategies and performance
- Outline opportunities for improvement in overall operational performance.
The minimum qualifications you’ll need
- Degree(s) in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or a related quantitative discipline.
- 3-6 years of experience in electricity markets in an analytical or trading role, ideally with nodal market experience.
- Ability to occasionally work evening/weekend hours and be on-call according to a defined schedule.
- Proficiency with Excel, SQL, and programming languages such as Python
- Team-oriented and collaborative
- Must be effective working in a fast-paced team environment, and able to see projects through to completion
- Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a group
- Excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
- Demonstrates creativity, and independent thought when solving problems
- Good understanding of business processes and data management
Nice to have additional skills
- Experience managing/assessing merchant battery operations
- Experience in multiple ISO markets
- Knowledge of power plant operations and management
