Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

About the Team

At Kraken Technologies we’re looking to revolutionise the energy system to make power cheaper, greener, and better for people around the world. Our tech platform ‘Kraken’ is already licensed to support 55 million customer accounts globally, and we aim to serve 100 million by 2027.

Our Technology Team has grown extremely quickly as a result, tripling in size within the last 18 months. With this rapid growth, we are looking for a Product Data Scientist to join the AI/ML team to ensure we deliver the highest impact for our customers.

We’re currently providing licences of our platform to serve the water and telco industries and have created a new org - Kraken for Utilities. Over the last two years, we have built this org from scratch to re-architect, design, and develop our Kraken software platform to solve complex industry-wide problems within the water and telco sectors. We put customers first wherever we are in the business and work empathetically with one another to deliver the best possible outcomes.

Kraken for Utilities is in a very exciting growth phase. We currently have 90+ people (engineers, product, implementation, design, strategy) along with 1500+ people in the overall Kraken world.

About the Opportunity

This role will be joining as the first Product Data Scientist in the AI/ML team to develop exciting products in both the water and telco industries. You will work very closely with the Lead ML Engineer and play a huge role in defining and shaping this role. The team currently has 4 ML/SW engineers and is growing. We have been working on products to improve water efficiency (e.g. using smart meter data to detect leakages and reduce domestic water consumption); and improve customer support efficiency (e.g. using LLM agents to automate actions and replies).

What you'll do

    • Partner closely with internal tech, operations, strategy and our clients to identify AI/ML features in Kraken that need to be built, enhanced or fixed
    • Conduct user research, monitor the market, and develop competitive analyses
    • Quantify opportunities for potential products in order to prioritise engineering efforts
    • Gather requirements, define approach, and collaborate with engineers so they can hit the ground running and support them during the product life cycle
    • Design and conduct experiments, product testing and releases; turn feedback and experiment results into actionable insights
    • Think strategically about, and contribute to what we can do better as an AI/ML team

What you'll need

    • 3+ years of experience as a product data scientist or analyst in a fast-growing product company
    • Masters or PhD in a quantitative field
    • Demonstrated expertise in python, SQL and using advanced analytics/ML techniques to establish actionable insights
    • Solid experience in experiment design and causal analysis
    • Very good understanding of product management in defining, implementing and operationalising new features
    • Enjoy working in a dynamic environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact with people with varying levels of technical knowledge
    • You’re a self-starter who sees a problem and can’t help but want to fix it
    • You’re a strategic thinker, always relating your decision making back to the overall goals of the team and the customer experience
    • You’re a curious and great listener - fantastic ideas come from everywhere in Kraken Technologies, so you’ll need to be able to spot and harness them
    • Bonus for:
    • Experience in a fast-paced B2B start-up or scale-up
    • Experience in end-to-end development of AI/ML products
    • Experience in the water and/or telco industry
