Remote UK 17-10-2023
Non-profit

The Mozilla Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit organization. Our mission is to ensure that the Internet is a global public resource, open and accessible to all. Join us and become part of our mission to promote openness, innovation, and opportunity online!

Twenty years ago, this meant building a browser and protecting the open web. Today, it also includes making sure AI and data driven technology is more trustworthy. In order to focus on places where Mozilla can impact the next era of our work, we are increasingly working on the topic of trustworthy AI. For us, this means especially two things: human agency is a core part of how AI is built and integrated, and corporate accountability is real and enforced.

The Technology Platforms team stewards the Foundation’s technology platforms and products, provides partnership and expertise around tools selection, and seeks to understand the business needs and impact goals to ensure that our technology solutions meet those needs.

The Web Platforms team is a part of the Technology Platforms team, and is responsible for the design strategy, technical strategy, execution and maintenance of the Foundation’s website(s).

The Senior Manager, Web Platforms, leads the team that stewards Mozilla Foundation’s investment in its main website along with an array of web properties that are essential to our constituents, or programs, and our movement.

The role of the Senior Manager, Web Platforms  is to seek out and understand the web-related needs of the organization; synthesize these needs into achievable deliverables related to platform enhancements, fixes, or user support; own and maintain the platform roadmap; and manage the team to effectively deliver on it. This position manages the developer team lead and the UX/UI design team lead. This person must be an excellent communicator and advocate both upwards and downwards for leadership, the staff and constituents, as well as the web team and relevant external consultants’ capacity to deliver. The relevant product domain includes the evolving functionality of the main website and other distributed websites and microsites, custom web tools, and web-based elements of other digital products (i.e. donation, signup, event pages, etc).

Note that the Web Platforms team is not responsible for creating content, but is focused on providing colleagues in areas such as programs, communications, fundraising, and other areas across the organization an ever-improving platform with which to do their work. The Web Platform Manager also works hand in hand with the other product managers on the Technology Platforms Team to manage the organization’s technology platforms in a coordinated fashion.

Technical experience and understanding are helpful, and an array of experience in strategic technical roles is important. However, this role will be significantly more focused on strategy, communication, and leadership, as well the ability to translate user needs into well-defined requirements to be implemented by both internal and external technical resources. The most important technical skill is the ability to manage technical staff and external developers and to understand the details of what they are doing.
