Role Description   

Agilisys is one of the UK’s most innovative IT and Business Services providers. We deliver success through innovation, working with our clients to transform services that make a difference to millions of people across the UK.    

We are seeking a pragmatic, detail oriented and experienced Data Architect to join our growing Data Strategy and Insights practice. The ideal person for this role will have expertise and experience spanning cloud and hybrid environments and exposure to working across various domains. 

As a Data Architect, you are excited about the potential of data to revolutionise how organisations deliver services to their customers.  You will be working with clients on data strategies, designs, and architectures to modernise data platforms that facilitate transformational change.

Key Responsibilities   

  • Design and develop conceptual and logical data models, defining architectural frameworks as well as defining high level operating models and governance frameworks. 
  • Design, build and implement optimal, cutting edge modern data platform architectures. 
  • Contributing to shaping propositions and consulting assignments to support sales and account management teams 
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements: automating manual processes, optimising data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.   
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using Azure and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.   
  • Build analytics tools that utilise the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.   
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data platform infrastructure needs.   
  • Keep client data secure across national boundaries through multiple cloud regions.   
  • Coordinate with and support analytics and data scientist teams in building and optimising services and products into market leading innovations.   
  • Conceive, model, build and assemble large, complex data sets to support functional / non-functional business requirements of clients. 

 

Experience and Expertise (minimum) 

  • Experience working with multi cloud and hybrid Data Services, including Azure and AWS. 
  • Experience using agile development methodologies, version control systems and git repositories is a must. 
  • Experience building and optimising data pipelines, architectures, and data sets.   
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, Scala, etc is required. 
  • Azure DevOps knowledge is essential for CI/CD pipelines and integrations. 
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data quality issues and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.   
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.   
  • Experience supporting and working with cross functional teams in a dynamic environment.   
  • Mentoring junior members of staff - Delivering high-quality solutions and collateral at pace.   
  • Role model for company values, manage their emotions and respond rather than react.   
  • Self-starter, passionate about improvement of delivery and able to set direction for themselves.     
  • Good written skills, able to draft and refine written responses, documents, and reports (1,000 to 5,000 words). 

Experience and Expertise (good to have) 

  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Architect to build data solutions.   
  • Expertise with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NoSQL databases, stream-processing systems is a plus. 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of at least one recognised architecture framework or standard e.g. TOGAF, Zachman Architecture Framework etc. 
  • Ability to work to demanding deadlines, keep momentum and deal with conflicting priorities in an environment undergoing a programme of transformational change. 
  • The ability to contribute and adhere to standards, have excellent attention to detail and be strongly driven by quality.  
  • IT qualifications and Microsoft Azure and AWS Certifications will be an added advantage. 
  • Experience with AWS or google cloud data service will be an added advantage. 
  • Role model for company values, good understanding, and engagement with others, whilst managing their emotions, able to put themselves in other’s shoes and respond rather than react.   
  • Demonstrably self-motivated and passionate about public sector outcomes.   
  • A good communicator with the ability to articulate complex concepts in a simple way. Demonstrable experience of delivering successful presentations.
