About our Company
Equilibrium Energy is a well-funded, Series B clean energy startup backed by some of the most prominent institutional investors in climate. We are building a digital native power company operating at the intersection of grid variability, market volatility, economic optimization, commercial structuring, and risk management, across the end-to-end power value chain. Our mission is to accelerate our collective path to climate, energy, and societal equilibriums. Our goal is to become one of the next-generation, digital-native, end-to-end global clean power companies that reshapes the energy industry.
New colleagues will share our vision that a next-generation energy company must be built from the ground up on deep industry expertise combined with an unwavering commitment to modern digital approaches. We design our commercial strategies, operational approaches, and product suites so as to best leverage data-driven insights, automated workflows, ML-infused pipelines, and fully automated decision engines. These capabilities are enabled by our progressively modern software stack and engineering best practices, which in turn provide the scalable platform we need to put a serious dent in carbon emissions. We’re looking for collaborative, talented, passionate and resourceful folks to join our team and help us lay the foundation for our important mission and ambitious plan.
Who we are, and what we are looking for
The Analytics team serves a key function at Equilibrium: driving the performance feedback loop that connects research to implementation to operations. We serve as subject matter experts, investigators, storytellers, and catalysts with the purpose of driving the company mission forward.
In order to best serve in this capacity, we are looking for an Energy Analyst with experience leading operations analytics processes, driving hypothesis and idea generation, and supporting our partner teams with informative visualizations and clear storytelling. The analyst will move flexibly between our two business programs, physical asset operations and virtual energy trading. They will be expected to build analytical tooling, partnering with Traders, Scientists, Data Engineers, and Software Engineers to bring projects from ideation to completion.
What you will do
Analytics and Engineering
- Conduct analysis to explore and explain battery asset financial and operational outcomes, opening the door for energy science and trading team partners to implement improvements to algorithms and processes.
- Standardize components of our current ad-hoc analysis space, making routine analysis requests straightforward, efficient, and effective on a repeatable basis.
- Expand upon our analysis space, iterate and expand on our internal analytical tool suite, developing new features to meet expanding needs across multiple business programs
- Condense learnings from operational analysis into proposals and action plans for standardization and automation
- Actively contribute to the definition and implementation of our standardized data model by prototyping data pipelines and working closely with data engineers to define data needs and prioritization
Operations Support and Visualization
- Define and manage operational performance review processes with short feedback cycles
- Develop explanatory visualizations to empower critical operational decisions, working with Traders, Scientists, and Engineers to define needs and use cases.
The minimum qualifications you’ll need
- Passion for clean energy and fighting climate change
- BS/Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Physics, Electrical Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional analytics experience including significant experience with clean energy systems, including energy storage controls, power market operations, time series forecasting, and simulations.
- Demonstrated analytical experience with Python and SQL; ability to translate complex data sets into well-scoped analyses.
- Effective communication skills to synthesize business and operations needs into informative proposals.
Nice to have additional skills
- Demonstrated experience with Databricks
- Experience using dbt to build ETL processes
- Expertise with data visualization tools, including Hex, Plotly, Bokeh, and/or Tableau.
- Experience communicating the results of analyses with product, engineering, and leadership teams to influence operations, product, and engineering strategy.
- Demonstrated proactivity and self-direction. Willingness to teach as well as learn and be flexible.
- Excellent team collaboration skills and collaboration-first mentality.
- Experience with trading systems or battery EMS/BMS systems.
