Role Description

The Infrastructure  is an important role that will provide architectural and engineering expertise for the data centre colocation build and migration.

The role holder will be familiar with designing and implementation of private hybrid  cloud infrastructures, across Azure, AWS and VMware and will be actively engaged within cloud programmes providing delivery and deployment activities for data centre migration project.  The role will require infrastructure and application assessment to document system knowledge reports, working alongside an enterprise architect and project managers to support ongoing projects as well as being involved in the creation of a new co-located data centre workstream.  The role will define the tooling  to be used alongside manual methods to allow engineering to  migrate application stacks to the new platforms.

This role is involved in all aspects of cloud engineering based on platforms such as VMware, Microsoft Azure and AWS. The role holder will be experienced in supporting and delivering Hybrid cloud migrations.

 

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities are:

  • Definition and implementation of approaches to transforming and migrating client platforms to co-located hosted platforms.
  • Own solution delivery with the Agilisys and Client Design Authorities and Programme Management function to ensure compliance with defined strategy and architecture and assess the impact of deviations.
  • Champion the use of good design principles and ensure that non-functional requirements such as scalability, security, availability, reliability and performance are addressed.
  • Communicate IT migrations in business terms to internal and external stakeholders at all levels and explain how solutions/strategies address their current and future needs.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members, embedding the technical architecture strategy in their thinking and delivery, and encourage collaborative sharing of best practices and design patterns.
  • Ensure that Target Architectures are flexible and support the business needs by maintaining an understanding of client requirements, business strategies and infrastructure capabilities.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation to facilitate efficient planning, execution and handover into BAU service delivery.
  • Establish and adhere to policies, procedures and standards relating to infrastructure management, security and change controls.
  • Analysis of on-premises infrastructure and servers to define and execute migration run-books.
  • Remediation of infrastructure issues and support of testing prior to, and during, migrations and early life support for applications
  • Root cause analysis of faults and identification and remediation of incidents
  • Working within a migration team to deliver migration programmes.

What we are looking for

Agilisys Services -Professional services is growing rapidly and sits at the heart of how Agilisys is seeking to become the “Technology Partner of Choice for the UK Public Sector.”  We are looking for an experienced architect that can migrate from one datacentre to another using both tooling and manual migrations techniques. 

You will have an established track record, with at least 3 years architecture experience of  implementing and maintaining servers and associated back office IT infrastructure for small and medium sized organisations, including support and migration including migration of older Windows systems.

In addition, at least 5 years of experience working with cloud technologies is key, you will hold at least one appropriate AWS and/or Azure foundation, associate, or professional certification.

Ideally, you will also have experience of working within or with the UK public sector but relevant experience in the private sector will suffice.

Delivery experience

3 years+ managing architecture for  on-premises infrastructure and/or cloud infrastructure services using VMware, Azure or AWS services as individual clouds for a small/medium sized business. Experience with Veeam and migrating and supporting Windows servers using vMotion and other tools.

Building new co-location data centres and bringing them into service

5 years+ managing and maintaining infrastructure and/or cloud IaaS services using VMware, Azure or AWS services as individual clouds for a small/medium sized business.  Including migrating and supporting older windows sever systems. Expert in use of Veeam technologies for backup and vMotion for migration.

Experience with the Microsoft stack including Active Directory, networking and administration to system level would also be advantageous.

Skills, qualifications, certificates

AWS or Azure Associate level cloud certification or equivalent Microsoft server or network management certification.

AWS and Azure Professional Certification, ITIL Foundation or equivalent Microsoft server or network management certification.
