The role
We’re looking for a smart, pragmatic and ambitious Management Accountant to join our high performing Finance team and support across both financial control/operations and FP&A. This is a brilliant development opportunity for a commercially-minded accountant to develop both your technical financial skills and your business acumen while working in a fun and dynamic growing start-up.

You’ll own accounts payable, and beyond that you’ll work on whatever is needed in the team, from financial analysis to improving control processes to management reporting. There are currently only two people in Finance managing our three entities (two of which are regulated). It’s complex and busy, with a long list of exciting projects to work through. We’re looking for someone who is excited to get stuck in! This is a great opportunity to gain exposure and have impact right across our evolving finance function.

We’re looking for someone with strong analytical skills and attention to detail, able to communicate concepts and insights clearly, and who enjoys making processes more efficient. You don’t need to be super experienced but you do need to be smart and great at problem solving. You’ll be a proactive team player who is excited to work with and learn from our VP Finance and Finance Manager, and who is comfortable adapting to changing priorities.

You will report into our VP Finance and work hybrid; our full-time staff work a minimum of two days per week in our east London office (Haggerston).

Responsibilities

    • Accounts payable: processing invoices and making payments on time, communicating with suppliers, issuing remittances, processing and paying employee expenses, and more
    • Controlling credit: issuing invoices and communication with counterparties, improving processes to manage our accounts receivable
    • Month end: Assisting with month-end close processes, e.g. preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts
    • Financial reporting: Supporting regular reporting processes, e.g. monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts and variance analysis, shareholder reporting, and regulatory reporting
    • Finance operations: Proactively identifying opportunities to make processes more efficient and improve the quality of our financial reporting and controls

About you

    • You’re a qualified accountant, with 2+ years of work experience
    • You have effective communication skills, able to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
    • You know your way around Excel, with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
    • You’re reliable and pragmatic, able to prioritise limited time and resources to get stuff done
    • Ideally you know how to write SQL, but at the very least, we’re looking for someone who’s keen to learn

What we offer

    • A competitive salary of £50-55k + stock options
    • 28 days of annual leave plus the usual public holidays
    • Personal development budget of 3 days and £1000 per year
    • Regular team socials & company-wide events
    • A chance to make a meaningful contribution to people's lives and deaths
