Role description

As a member of the Private Cloud team, you will be part of the wider Cloud Managed Services organisation managing infrastructure across various platforms for our customers.  In the Private Cloud Engineer role your focus will be that of the Agilisys Private Cloud platforms, including the IaaS and BaaS services, as well as any on-premise infrastructure for our customers supporting these 24x7 via an on-call rota arrangement.

Key responsibilities

The key responsibilities for the Private Cloud Engineer role include, but are not limited to:

  • Server provision (physical and virtual), virtual server resource changes and server decommissions as per customer request within the SLA
  •  Identification of routine operations as automation candidates with a view to enhancing the self-service interfaces and streamlining the operational service
  • Monitoring counters and thresholds should be effective to manage the environments and avoid major incidents
  • All environments are backed up daily and the BaaS offering will be maintained to have 100% coverage and success with agreed exceptions
  • All management and customer systems are to be protected by up-to-date AV software, managed at 100% coverage with agreed exceptions
  • Configuration and management of patching for all customer and management workloads to ensure compliance against organisation policy
  • Configuration and adherence to all capacity management processes so as to ensure new hardware requests are logged in a timely manner and to avoid incidents where capacity has been exceeded
  • Acceptance and completion of all operational requests and incidents coming to the team within the organisations ITSM tool
  • Participate in on-call rotation to cover incident management outside the core business hours of 8am to 6pm.
  • Security cleared to MV/SC level or willing to be.

Role objectives

The position is subject to the following key objectives:

  • Operational Requests and Incidents to be accepted and completed within contractual SLA timeframes
  • All workloads in scope for backup will be maintained for 100% coverage and success, with exceptions agreed and documented.
  • All workloads in scope for AV are to be protected with up-to-date engines and definitions, maintained for 100% coverage with exceptions agreed and documented.
  • All workloads in scope for patching are to be updated in accordance with the agreed schedule for each supported environment, remediating any non-compliant instances to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Infrastructure hardware and software to be maintained and kept up to date in accordance with manufacturer or vendor standards.

What we are looking for

The position requires experience in the following technologies:

  • Linux / Solaris system administration
  • Windows Server configuration and administration 2012 onwards
  • Windows Domain administration (WSUS, DNS, AD, GPO)
  • SAN storage 
  •  Backup technologies
  •  Antivirus technologies
  • Virtualisation technologies (Vmware/Hyper-V)

Experience with the following technologies are highly desirable:

  • Public cloud administration, Azure and/or AWS
  • Azure ARC / Monitor / Backup / Update Management
  • vRealize Operations
  • Vmware NSX Virtual routers
  • Dell HCI Hardware
  • IBM Flex System and Storwize Hardware
  • Powershell, Python or similar

Knowledge of the following technologies are beneficial:

  •  Enterprise AV (ESET)
  • Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) / Spectrum Protect
  • Oracle Hypervisor (OVM)
  • Juniper Firewalls
  • Squid, DataDog or Splunk applications

Delivery experience

2 years delivering cloud Engineering services using various hypervisor technologies and Public Cloud services, supporting individual private clouds including implementation within an engineering or operations team.

5+ years delivering cloud Engineering services using various hypervisor technologies and Public Cloud services, supporting individual private clouds including implementation within an engineering or operations team.

Skills, qualifications, certificates

Current certification and/or experience in supporting Vmware, OVM and Hyper-V, with working knowledge of Public Cloud management toolsets.

 

Current certification in Vmware, OVM and/or Hyper-V, with demonstratable skills supporting these technologies within a faced paced managed service environment.

Skills and certifications for managing Hyper-converged Infrastructure, various SAN technologies and Public Cloud would be an advantage.
