Description

SatVu was founded in 2016 with the aim to fill the void in high resolution thermal data from space. It has, since then, turned into a high-growth space tech company poised to help the globe address its sustainability challenges through high-resolution thermal imaging. We are on a quest to ensure any structure on the planet is energy efficient and support the reduction of businesses’ carbon footprint. In near real-time, we will use infrared technology to monitor the Earth and will be able to assess and determine insights into economic activity. This will allow businesses to make decisions to reduce their climate impact.

We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to join us as a foundational member of the Engineering team, as we scale.

What you'll be getting involved in:

As an early stages business, you can expect your role to develop over time. We’d expect you to dive into a range of tasks and high priority problems across the company, and proactively problem solve as issues arise. We see this role as crucial to the successful scaling of SatVu, enabling other departments to concentrate on their core activities. It’s a demanding role, but when done well it will be very rewarding as the impact of effective operations will be very clear – and well recognised – in the achievements of the company. Here are some of the types of things you could be getting involved in:

  • Implementation of web frontends for RESTful services, some with strong web mapping focus, we aim to offer an integrated experience for our customers to be able to search and order existing imagery, task our satellites to collect new imagery and allow self-service of their user accounts and API integrations
  • Fixing bugs and taking care of code and application health through monitoring and tech debt management
  • Work with our modern frontend development stack of SvelteJS, Vite, Vitest, Github Actions, AWS CDK, AWS CloudFront and others
  • Working together with product owner, product designer and other engineers to achieve shared goals in an agile environment

Key skills

  • Multiple years experience building web applications with Typescript and any modern frontend framework like SvelteJS, React, Vue, EmberJS, etc.
  • Experienced in writing unit and integration tests
  • Strong skills in using Git for code versioning and any CI/CD tool
  • Enjoying working in a cross-functional product engineering team with people of different roles and backgrounds
  • Ability to engage in technical discussions in a positive and constructive way during brainstorming, architecture design sessions, planning and code reviews
  • Solid understanding of frontend related networking topics like HTTP, RESTful APIs, CORS and cache control

Nice to haves

  • Knowledge of geospatial topics, data formats (GeoJSON) and web mapping, for example with Mapbox GL JS, OpenLayers or Leaflet
  • Knowledge of GraphQL
  • Knowledge of AWS

How we'll interview you:

  • Call with the People team to discuss the role in more detail as well as your own wants and needs. The call will last about 20 minutes
  • Call with the hiring manager to discuss the role and your experience in more detail
  • Technical coding challenge with and interview with two members of the hiring team
  • Informal chat with wider team members
