More than one third of the food produced in the world is wasted. And that has a huge impact on the health of our planet, with 10% of greenhouse gas emissions coming from food waste!
At Too Good To Go, we have an ambitious goal: To inspire and empower everyone to fight food waste together. We are the world's #1 app for fighting food waste and we work with thousands of restaurants and food retailers to make their surplus food available to local consumers. The magic of Too Good To Go has expanded rapidly across Europe, the US, and Canada, with over 200 million meals saved across our 17 countries to date.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but did we mention the issue is huge? We always want to raise the bar and that’s where you come in.
Your mission at Too Good to Go…
We are looking for an experienced Global Director of Buying & Sourcing who will be responsible for developing and executing the overall buying and sourcing strategy for our "Magic Parcel" (Manufacturing) business . You will lead a team of buyers, in building strong relationships with food manufacturing suppliers to ensure a reliable and high-quality product supply while seeking cost savings and value-added partnerships. You will drive commercial and legal negotiations to secure favourable pricing, terms, and contracts, while monitoring key performance metrics and implementing improvement plans. Leading a high-performing team, you will foster innovation, collaboration, and accountability while creating an inclusive environment aligned with our company values. This role will report directly to the VP of Manufacturing.
Our recently launched “Magic Parcel” (Manufacturing) business is a transformative solution that enables food manufacturers to effectively reduce food waste while extracting value from surplus food. Through direct purchasing from food manufacturers, Too Good To Go carefully curates and assembles the purchased products into “Magic Parcels”, which are then offered to our users at a discount of ~50% off of original retail (including shipping costs). Sold through our existing B2C marketplace, customers can opt to have their parcel conveniently delivered to their doorstep or pick it up from a nearby location, creating a surprise element as customers unbox their Magic Parcel. Instead of allowing these products to go to waste, manufacturers significantly decrease their environmental impact, optimise their revenue by maximising the value of saved food, and enhance product visibility in the market.
In the role, you will:
- Develop and execute the overall buying and sourcing strategy for our “Magic Parcel” (Manufacturing) business, in alignment with financial targets and achieving the best possible combination of price and relevant customer supply.
- Develop short and long term buying strategies and ensure that day to day activities drive supply that is aligned with the global “Magic Parcel” demand and supply forecast
- Build and maintain strong relationships with food manufacturing suppliers, ensuring a reliable and high-quality supply of products, while seeking opportunities for cost savings and value-added partnerships.
- Drive commercial and legal negotiations with suppliers to secure favourable pricing, terms, and contracts, while maintaining strong working relationships and ethical business practices.
- Monitor and analyse key performance metrics, such as supplier performance, product quality, sell through rates, and cost savings, and develop action plans to address any areas of improvement.
- Lead a team of local/regional buyers, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to maximise their performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Work closely with the Director of Supply Planning to control and manage inventories of existing products to ensure a healthy product flow and a proactive management of products close to expiry date.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including supply planning & inventory management, operations, and marketing, to understand business needs, optimise supplier performance, and drive sales growth.
- Work cross-functionally with our Product & Tech teams on new product innovation to help improve the experience of our suppliers and customers
- Stay informed about regulatory requirements and industry standards related to food safety, quality assurance, and sustainability, ensuring supply chain compliance.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, identifying emerging products and suppliers to enhance our product offerings and maintain a competitive edge.
You meet the following requirements:
- 10+ years buying and negotiation experience as a Senior Buyer, Buying manager, or Head of Buying level, preferably within the food industry
- Proven track record of successfully managing price negotiations, achieving cost savings, and building strong relationships with suppliers, preferably in the food retail & manufacturing industry.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing a team of buyers, preferably across countries and markets.
- Experience with planning and managing supply volume and buying activities in alignment with approved sales forecasts
- In-depth knowledge of food retail procurement processes, industry best practices, and emerging trends.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, both internally and externally
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner and influence key stakeholders effectively at all levels of an organisation
- Strong business acumen and commercial mindset with proven ability to understand and operate in a fast moving and evolving business environment
