Head of ProductSimply Business

London, UK 02-06-2023
B Corp
We’re Simply Business

We insure small businesses and enable big dreams – not just for our customers, but for our people and communities too. With over 800,000 active insurance policies, we protect builders, bakers, landlords, and more than 1,000 other trades.

We harness cutting-edge data ability, believe in experimentation, and build our own technology to deliver better experiences for our customers and employees. This means we’re as much a technology company as one that sells insurance. We build, we fail, we learn, we improve. We’re a B Corp too, which recognises our strong track record of having a positive impact on people, society and the environment.

If Simply Business sounds like the kind of place you’ll thrive, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a Head of Product who'll lead the teams focused on delivering the end to end customer proposition for our core business in the UK, targeting double digit customer growth year on year over the next five years. The Head of Product will work closely with the UK Marketing, Commercial, Partnerships, and Ops teams.

This role is part of the Product Leadership team and is based in the UK.

Product managers are all builders at heart – people who like to bring concepts to life that make the world better for our users (customers or internal staff.) To be an excellent Head of Product, you need to be a master of many skills – most of them based on understanding people.

You need to be a “people person” to love this job. You need to love to solve problems and overcome the many hurdles that will be in your way. You need to care about creating the best possible experience you can for our customers within the time, resources, and scope you have. As a Head of Product, you need to instil these values in those you lead.

As a Head of Product, you’ll:

    • serve as a product leader: building, managing, and executing a product vision, strategy, and roadmap to support the goals and strategies for a market-leading customer proposition which serves an existing base of almost 1m customers
    • synthesise and drive product strategy from interactions with business stakeholders, engineers, and customers
    • create products that satisfy the needs of customers while also constructing scalable, configurable technical solutions that will serve us in the future
    • drive the next set of business and product innovations required to take the product organisation to the next level
    • manage, build, and scale the product organisation
    • mentor and help the team grow into positions of influence and scale
    • partner closely with cross-functional business teams to sell your vision and execute it

Your skills:

    • demonstrate superior business judgement based on skills, intuition, and experience
    • understand commercial imperatives of how SB packages and sells policies
    • proven ability to go from strategic planning to delivery of both innovative initiatives and tactical activities that optimise business value – you know how to translate opportunities into great products
    • excellent at identifying cross program dependencies
    • proven ability to define and execute a product vision, strategy, and roadmap – and bring awareness of emerging technologies and suppliers
    • great team motivator who’s able to effectively manage and inspire their team
    • ability to negotiate, inspire, and support stakeholders including marketing, commercial, operations, and technology

Your experience

    • extensive experience running a product team and managing staff
    • proven experience in positively influencing suppliers
    • experience working with agile projects at scale – with several different streams and stakeholders
    • extensive experience in different collaboration techniques
Our culture is inclusive and diverse

We Embrace Individuality We value what’s important to each and every SBer. Whether that be providing access to cutting edge wellbeing support, or being part of one of our many diversity networks and communities.  We also take personal development seriously - we’re all about enabling big dreams.

We Trust Who We Hire We empower SBers with choice and flexibility to make the right decisions based on the needs of their roles and we’ve been working this way long before Covid19.
There’s no one-size-fits all solution when it comes to how often we get together in person, so all of our people and teams find the rhythm that suits them best when it comes to working from home or hub.

We’re innovative We've created a place for people to be curious, experience new things, and bring unique ideas to the table. If you want to learn how we do all this - head over to our Careers page where you’ll see us walk the talk

Our mission is to make Simply Business synonymous with fairness, belonging and inclusivity. We won’t be happy until we’ve created a truly inclusive culture – where every employee, whatever their background, role, or location, feels comfortable being their authentic self at work.

We all have a part to play – to learn more, to do more and to go further – in building this new reality that’ll be befitting of the diversity of the customers we serve. At Simply Business, we’re all in.

What are the benefits?
