Overview

Espresso has been in schools since 1997 and is much loved by teachers and pupils. We recently revamped the service and moved it, into a new platform with new features and benefits. We are now looking to bring espresso to the next level.

Discovery Education is seeking a Product Designer to join our Espresso product team in Bath, UK. A keen aesthetic sensibility and attention to detail, combined with a user-centered methodology, is critical for success. You will work directly with our researchers, product managers, and engineers to collaboratively ensure success in delivering engaging, effective, and easy-to-navigate educational experiences for students, educators, and administrators.

In this role, you will have the ability to drive innovation by partnering with individual working teams through every step of the product development process — From defining overall strategy and concepting new features and functionality, to conducting usability testing to inform iterative product improvements.

We are based across three offices in the UK, London, Manchester and Bath. You will work very closely with the UK Senior Product Manager and report into the Senior Manager, Product Design.

We operate a hybrid working model for most roles if you are within a commutable distance of an office.

About the role

  • Solve problems, understand business goals, and explore innovative design approaches while working with product teams to plan and build iteratively.
  • Lead execution of high-quality wireframes, mockups, user journeys, and interactive prototypes.
  • Support the team in designing & building templates within our platform.
  • Take challenging workflows and convert them into simple, intuitive, and elegant experiences.
  • Contribute to the overall creative vision by successfully integrating the DE brand while visually communicating the goals of the product.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams from content, curriculum, editorial, analytics, visual design, and engineering.
  • Develop all visual components for the UI including components, views and pages. Must be proficient in responsive and mobile..
  • Help drive the vision of the product forward by partnering with our UX Research team to develop initial user testing scripts, usability studies, and follow up with recommendations based on user input.
  • Manage and develop consistent design patterns to guide the look, feel, and functionality of the company’s portfolio of products, utilizing and contributing to the DE Design System.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the DE Nebula and Atlas design system and component library.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of product design experience designing for SaaS enterprise applications and/or educational products in an Agile development environment.
  • You are highly proficient in Figma creating interaction diagrams, UI designs, components, interactive prototypes, and micro-animations.
  • Possess a solid design approach that encompasses all the core components of product design: Product strategy, research, feature validation, info architecture, wireframing, visual/UI design, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • You appreciate the challenge of turning complex problems into simple and engaging experiences, while understanding the importance of designing for accessibility.
  • Possess an understanding of the various product development methodologies (JTBD, Business mapping/Lean Canvas, etc.) and know when/how to integrate them into the design process.
  • You are a driven self-starter and collaborative design professional who can work with multiple cross-disciplinary team members to get to the best solution.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly articulate solutions within the problem space.
  • You are a team player with a positive outlook and an entrepreneurial spirit.
